A young father from Parkwood, who took up car guarding to support his family, has died after being stabbed in the chest during an argument over tips on Tuesday night.
The hartseer father of Ashwin Khan, 23, says his son was killed just hours after he told him he was going to work for taxi fare.
Grassy Park Station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Grassy Park Hotel just after 7pm.
“He got a tip from a customer and another car guard wanted some of the money and fought with him.
“He stabbed the victim once in the chest and he ran across the street to Spar where he collapsed and died.”

A large crowd gathered around Ashwin and his father Clive says one of the men recognised him and came to tell him.
“When I got to the scene, he was already gone.
“I raised that boy on my own for 10 years after his mother Elaine died from cancer.
“We found out his mother had an inheritance and we had to go to Cape Town CBD.
“He said he was going to work and get us taxi fare.
“My child didn’t have work but he did what he could so we could eat and never stole or robbed people.
“He didn’t deserve this and now I am alone. He was my only child.”

Ashwin leaves behind a four-year-old son, Wayde.
Laing says officers arrested Ashwin’s killer within minutes of the incident.
“A 22-year-old suspect was arrested for the murder but in a twist, 30 minutes later, we arrested the alleged killer’s brother right outside the police station as he was selling Mandrax.
“The brother was found with 13 whole Mandrax
