The battle for burial rights has reached the Western Cape High Court after the family of slain
Kuilsriver mom, Pumla Mvinjelwa Ntombela, brought an urgent application to court.
Weeks after the mom and her two daughters, Nhlanhla, 10, and Bajabulile, six, were found shot and killed in their Bardale Village home, her family is engaged in a bitter battle with her in-laws over the bodies of her two girls.
According to police, the 33-year-old woman and her children were shot and killed by her husband, Simthembile, 36, who then left a suicide note before shooting himself.
GONE: Pumla, 33.
The shocking incident has seen protests at Tygerberg Mortuary where angry groups of women demanded the girls’ bodies be handed to her mother’s family as their father was the alleged murderer, but officials have indicated only the Ntombela family can sign the bodies over.
Pumla’s adamant relatives have started petitions and on
Monday their legal team brought an urgent application before Judge Elizabeth Baartman who spoke to both teams inside her chambers before postponing the matter to today for the Ntombelas to be given a chance to respond.
PROTEST: Mense want the girls' bodies released.
Outside protesters covered pillows with pictures of the two meisies covered in blood highlighting how they died in their sleep after being shot.
Lawyers for both families declined to be named or to give comment on the matter.
