“ Luister mooi, dit is hoekom ek vra dat jy dit rekord; omdat ek reg is en nie verkeerd is nie, die Vrydag maak ek haar dood.”
These were the chilling words to three relatives by Shakoor Roberts when he asked them to make a cellphone audio recording of himself confessing to killing his mother Gafsa Roberts, 61, at their home in Tafelsig in February 2015.
Gafsa’s body was discovered three days later hidden in a dirtbin outside her home.
Roberts allegedly choked his mom to death and then said she went away for the weekend.
This week, the magistrate allowed the damning recording, made in 2017, to be entered into evidence and it was played in court.
Roberts can be heard identifying himself, and then talking about a series of bizarre topics, including a hostage drama where a child was tied up and American singer Nicki Minaj hiding in the ceiling.
KILLED: Mom Gafsa Roberts
He claimed his mother had asked him to kill her, and that he needed to prepare her body for the afterlife.
“I sat with two different minds and I said, I can nogal kill you. I can kill you but for the right
reason,” he said.
“I believe in Islam and your soul cannot rest if something is not right, otherwise it will dwaal in dunya (the world) the whole time.”
He also said: “ Ek sê Gafsa, glo jy in Allah en sy sê ek glo in Allah en jy’t gesê ek moet jou vrek maak, om ‘n example te maak.
“ Ek sê vir haar, batcha die Kalima Shahada, ek batcha myne dan maak ek jou vrek.”
Roberts says he had told a woman named Colleen what he had done and that everyone had been searching for Gafsa but that he hid her inside the house.
“ Ek het vir haar gesê, Gafsa is maniengal, sy is rerig dood by die huis, dit is nie n joke nie.”
