Police are looking for a third suspect who is at large following the murder of six-year-old Nathlia Pienaar of Lavender Hill.
On Friday, Waylin Andrews, 18, and Enrique Williams, 20, made their second appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court where they are facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
Two weeks ago, little Nathlia was shot in the head while playing outside her home in Lavender Hill.
The Grade R pupil of Levana Primary School was declared brain dead at Red Cross Children’s Hospital where she died hours later on August 24.
Her uncle Ryan Kruger, who had been walking down the street, was shot in the leg during the incident.
Last week, the court heard that Williams had admitted to shooting Nathlia, while Andrews had acted as his lookout.
On Friday, replying to a question from Magistrate Goolam Bawa, the suspects’ legal aid lawyer said the third suspect was still on the run: “The third suspect is known and he is evading the police.”
He then asked whether he could have access to Williams’ confession, which he hopes to use as part of the formal bail application.
The State previously indicated they would be opposing the men’s
application for bail and that the incident was gang related.
The suspects looked nervous, and kept looking at the public gallery searching for familiar faces.
Nathlia’s mother, Natalie Pienaar, said the suspects were known to the family and the community and that she wished to speak to them face to face to ask them why they did it.
