This World Contraception Day (WCD) the AIDS Healthcare Foundation reminds us all that condoms are safe, effective and with all the varieties available, they can be fun as well.
“There are many effective forms of contraception though oral and injectable contraception can come with unwanted side effects such as weight gain, headaches and depression. In addition to preventing unplanned pregnancy, condoms for men and women are over 90% effective and not only don’t have any side effects.1, they also prevent transmission of sexually transmitted infections such as HIV,” comments Larissa Klazinga, Regional Policy and Advocacy Manager, AHF South Africa.
AHF is committed combatting HIV, distributing over 50 million condoms annually in 41 countries. Dedicated to making high quality free condoms easily available to the public, AHF’s special LOVE and ICON brand condoms can be collected from all 75 of their supported sites in South Africa.
Hilary Thulare, AHF South Africa, Country Programme Director says “Our ‘use a condom’ campaign has a simple and clear message and that is to use a condom every time you have sex, to use them correctly, to use each condom only once and to practice safer sex. Safer sex requires that you only partake in sexual intercourse when you are sober, to engage with as few partners as possible, to keep yourself informed about HIV prevention and to have open and honest conversations with your sexual partners regarding sexual history and STI status.”
