Two Northern suburbs ouens have written a song in support of the Springboks who are currently in Japan vying for the Rugby World Cup.
The hip hop track, titled Bring Back The World Cup, is making waves on social media, bringing instant fame to Mzwakhe Slovo Poyo and Jan Ruggaman.
The duo started writing the catchy number just a month before the World Cup kicked off, fusing their different cultures to give the song a uniquely local flavour.
The song is sung in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa, and it’s all about patriotism and getting behind the Bokke, says producer Abraham Williams, aka Stabber, from Scottsville.
The three collaborated after Stabber saw the home of a superfan in Scottsville and was instantly inspired.
The fan passed away in 2018 and his home is still filled with rugby paraphernalia, with posters and tapes of old games and even a copy of the World Cup trophy.

His wife allowed the songwriters to sit and soak up his love of the game and to draw some inspiration from his collection.
Poyo says it is his first experience working with a white artist and it worked a treat.
“It has been a real learning curve for me to be able to work with and produce this song with Jan,” he says.
“We worked on it every day until we got the words right and it had something people can celebrate.
“We hope its upbeat tempo and message of support will give our team a lekker boost and remind us why we love the game so much,” Poyo says.
Stabber adds: “After mixing for a week in my studio in Brackenfell, we all agreed it was a hit just waiting to be released.”
They also pay tribute to their homeboy Cheslin Kolbe; the wing hails from Kraaifontein and has been playing outstanding rugby in Japan, making them even more proud.
The ouens sing: “Amabokke bokke is die span, amabokke bokke maak jou bang, amabokke bokke is number one, ons gaan die wêreld beker huis toe bring.”
