The woman accused of murdering her aunt and cousin and then burying them in their own backyard has been warned her bail will be revoked if she continues to stay away from court.
Levonna Jacobs, 38, took the stand at the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday after a warrant of arrest was issued on Monday.
Jacobs was given the opportunity to explain before Judge Mushtak Parker why she failed to appear in court on Monday and why she had skipped several signing-in sessions at Elsies River Police Station.
Jacobs is currently out on R10 000 bail.
She is recovering from surgery to her stomach after complaining of an ulcer and menstrual pains. Last week, she received a doctor’s certificate claiming the wound had turned septic.
She said she went to the doctor again on Monday and contacted her lawyer.
She then sighed dramatically, saying the murder case was becoming too much for her.
“I feel sad for what I am seeing being reported (in newspapers), but fairness will speak for itself.”
A fed-up Parker told Jacobs he was on the verge of revoking her bail, as a Dr Andrews had testified on Monday that she was fit to be tried.
“I am of the opinion that you want to do as you please,” he said.
“I am warning you now that you need to adhere to the court’s instructions. I am putting it that you will attend court and if you do feel ill to go to the cells here until you recover and we will continue without you.”
Jacobs allegedly killed her aunt, Virna Jacobs, 47, and her cousin, Rowena Jacobs, 26, at their home in Seringue Avenue in Delft-South.
She then buried them in their backyard and covered it with cement.
Relatives dug up their bodies in December 2015.
