An inmate belonging to the 28s gang was killed in Pollsmoor after he stabbed a prison warder on Sunday.

“A male official was stabbed by the offender with a sharp object in the neck behind the right ear,” he said.

Correctional Service spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says: “Minimum force had to be used in restraining the attacking inmate.
“That resulted in a scuffle and left the inmate dead on the scene.

“The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services has also been informed and is expected to run its own independent investigation.”
