A Bellville dietitian is on a mission to ensure that matrics do not write exams on empty stomachs.
Carinne Adams says she has been working with students throughout the lockdown and noticed that learners from Arcadia High School in Bonteheuwel had been struggling to get regular nutritious meals.
“I do dietitian work in the area, I had a talk with the children during intervals and asked them if they need any food,” she says.
She offered most of the learners fruit.
“I watch and observe them. They only eat chips and many go to bed without food and do not have breakfast.
“They need a proper lunch but many parents lost their jobs during the lockdown.”
She says some do not go to the school’s feeding scheme because they are shy.
Carinne is appealing to the public to make donations, so that she can ensure that learners focus on one thing, the exams, and not their hunger.
“I want to feed these learners just before they write their exams so that they have some sugar going into their blood,” she says.
“I have built a bond and relationship with these kids and I can see they are struggling.”
The public can assist by donating to the account Carinne has provided.
The matrics started their exams yesterday under the difficulties of Covid-19.
