In honour of celebrating Older Person’s Month in October, the residents at Douglas Murray Old Age Home were treated to a modelling show where they could dress up and have fun.
The theme was “Fancy Dress” and the golden oldies didn’t disappoint at the bash held on Saturday at the home in Retreat.
The home celebrated its 50th birthday last month.
CEO Fred Daniels says they will be celebrating older persons this month by arranging numerous events to highlight their plights.
“In the older persons sector a lot of events have been planned to celebrate older people,” Fred says.
“On Wednesday, we will have our annual walkabout through the community, with posters.

“This is to draw attention to the well-being of older persons, who are out in the community and are not protected.
“Some of the older persons here are orphaned, or whose family has moved away or passed on and we often look for others to adopt them during this month.”

He says the costumes for the show were chosen by the planning committee to celebrate diversity.
Contestants donned fancy dress with hats, feathers, funny glasses and crowns.
Married couple, Christine Davids, 84, and her husband Fortune, 82, both won.
Christine was crowned second princess while Fortune was the King.
“The Lord is good,” says Christine. “I have enjoyed the show. I am happy for my husband, I am jumping for joy.”
