Most mothers and their daughters have a complicated relationship to say the least, but that is not the case with social media duo Waffles and Mo.
Mother Whadia “Mo” Samuels and her 14-year-old daughter Wafeeqah “Waffles” have become a hit on Facebook and YouTube with their hilarious but accurate portrayals of moms and daughters on the Cape Flats.
In one video featuring the mom-and-daughter grapjas duo, Waffles wants to talk to her mom but says she is worried since Mo is too judgmental.
After reassuring her she won’t be, the teen confesses to her mom that she likes a boy, who happens to be gay.
In typical Mo fashion, her mom skels her from a dizzy height for being “simpel” like her father’s side of the family.
The videos are scripted, although the two have no formal training in drama.
They are originally from Hout Bay, but moved to Lotus River six years ago.

The mom says they enjoy making people laugh, hence their motto “Heeldag lag, maak jou dag”.
“We just want to spread cheer and laughter while showing people what we experience daily on the Cape Flats,” says Mo.
“As a single mother with a teenage daughter, the moments we experience are sometimes so funny, we can’t help but do it over for a video and share it with others.”
They’re certainly making an impact with over 90 000 Facebook followers and 77 700 likes, while some of their YouTube videos have garnered up to 6000 hits.
They aim to make three videos a week and collaborate with other comics, like Ikie Botha from Heideveld, who has his own Facebook page, called “Whatsup with Ikie”.
Whadia says: “Ikie and I have teamed up to give Wafeeqa a break as it was school holidays and I wanted her to enjoy her time off.
“Ikie is a funny guy on his own and I thought it would be lekker to have him join me as my husband on the videos.”
In one video, Ikie goes out for a night with the boys but a jealous Mo picks his outfit - an old jersey and too small takkies.
Some viewers have complained that Mo skels too much, but Whadia says: “Daai is Mo se character, it won’t be the same if she isn’t shouting at her husband or child.”
