The body of a 66-year-old pensioner from Delft South, who went missing on 20 October, has been discovered in the Salt River Mortuary.
The Western Cape Missing Persons Unit were working with the family of James Adams and police and on Friday identified the body at the morgue.
According to CEO Candice van der Rheede, as per standard practice, her team checks all hospitals, morgues, shelters, prisons and psychiatric facilities for missing persons.
She says they had been to Groote Schuur Hospital and Salt River Mortuary three times to look for James, armed with a description and picture but, were told nobody matched the profile.
On Thursday, the family once again went to Salt River Mortuary for an update, and were shocked to find his body had been there all along.
“We work with these families and naturally it’s a shock and painful experience to see someone lose a loved one. Understandably there are hundreds of bodies going through the
system, but this is very disappointing,” says
Candice.
According to her, James was injured in a hit-and-run off the N2 highway at Duinefontein Road.
“He was transported to Groote Schuur Hospital and died on Thursday, 7 November, already.
“Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones,” Candice said.
She says the family and especially James’ girlfriend Anne Adams, 63, are taking it very hard.
The family is now looking for answers as James’ killer has still not been found.
