Three-man group Static Space released their latest track, The Healing, in July. It is available on iTunes, and has received airplay on Hash Tag Radio and 2oceansvibe Radio.
Yusuf Sydow, 36, Shavaan Harker, 32, and Ganief Samuels, 39, make up Static Space.
They wrote the song in March after the news broke of the murder of Rene Tracy Roman, 13, in Lavender Hill.
Yusuf explains: “We were shattered by the news of Rene’s murder and decided to write a song to bring awareness to the violence on our children.
“The Healing was written from the heart of Static Space, because the song is based on the kidnappings, rape cases and murders of our youth in Cape Town.
“It’s a very touching concept that we had to get out there, so everyone could feel the pain of the families that have lost loved ones in this brutal manner.
“The song hopes to bring positivity to our community in the hopes of curbing all child murders.”
Asked how they came up with their band name, Yusuf explains: “Static is something that is drawn to you. Space is our space, so in other words you will be drawn to our space.
“We focus on R&B and soul music, but we like to use all genres of music to touch the lives of people who listen to our music.”
The band was formed in 2014 and released their first album, For Life, in 2015, which played on Good Hope FM and Bush Radio.
Yusuf says the band is getting ready to release an album in 2018 but wants to keep the details hush for now.
“We have grown musically so the world must be ready for Static Space early next year.
“We are working with better equipment in order for our music to be radio-friendly and current with the trends.
“We would like to keep that a surprise for our loyal fans,” he says.
