Berry from Bothasig is Cape Town’s last man, or rather woman, standing at this year’s Idols SA competition.
The 31-year-old mom of four has made it to the Top 3 and was hailed the favourite by judges on Sunday as she blew everyone away with her voice.
With the finale just two weeks away, it was the end of the road for Kevin, who failed to gather enough of the eight million votes cast over the week to advance.
Sunday night’s show was one for the books: for the first time in its history the Top 3 is an all-female affair as Karabo, Berry and S’22Kile outperformed their male counterparts.
Also for the first time, two of the Top 3 contestants are returnees to the Idols SA stage – both Berry and Karabo previously failed to make it past the open auditions stage.
An ecstatic Berry said she owes it all to her supporters.
“I’m feeling amazing, I can’t believe that I'm here in the Top 3! The songs I performed were my favourite for this season.
“I feel that they were well suited for my voice and that made me much more relaxed on stage,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“I’m so grateful to my supporters for pushing hard with the votes and getting me this far.
“Their hard work, love and support do not go unnoticed. I’m truly blessed!”
Performing three songs each, all of the contestants had their moment to shine.
Karabo impressed when she shared the stage with gospel great Lebo Sekgobela, singing Hallelujah Mdumiseni.
S’22Kile got rave reviews from Randall who commended her for singing Amanda Black’s Mina Nawe for the cover song segment, and Unathi was pleased that she chose Doja Cat’s Woman.
But Unathi said it was Berry who stole the show.
She was blown away by Berry’s IsiZulu during her duet with gospel singer Pastor Ayanda Ntanza.
Randall said their performance of Ayanda’s hit Basuka was a great start to the show, while he also praised her song choice for the trending hit segment, Adele’s Easy on Me.
Judith Sephuma said she loved Berry’s take of the Righteous Brothers classic hit Unchained Melody.
