Cape Town’s two Idols finalists have made it to the Top 5 and now it’s only four short weeks to go before South Africa’s next singing sensation is revealed.
On Sunday night, the five remaining Idols SA contestants set the stage on fire, with each singer receiving rave reviews from the judges.
Capetonians Daylin Sass and Berry along with Karabo, Kevin and S’22Kile each tackled two songs, the first song being an unplugged, stripped-down version of any of Mzansi’s best hits.
Then they cold go bos with the second number, choosing any gay anthem.
The musos teamed up with the fabulous Mzansi Gay Choir, who have become regulars on the show, while actor Khaya Dladla joined Randall and Unathi as the guest judge of the night.
Unfortunately, it was Nqobie who took her final bow before she could even showcase her prepared songs.
Daylin gave a smooth rendition of Liquideep’s Fairytale, which was “good”, according to the judges.
And then he went crazy, coming out in heels to belt out Whataya Want From Me, by Adam Lambert. However, this song also received a lukewarm response from the judges.
Daylin tells the Daily Voice he is just grateful he’s made it to the Top 5.
“I feel good about both of my performances, especially after a stressful week due to the strain on my voice, it came and went and I was stressed about my upcoming performance.”
Meanwhile Berry got the thumbs up for both her performances, being told she was the complete package and overflowing with talent after she sang Craig Lucas’ Happy and Lady Gaga’s Edge of Glory.
Randall praised her song choice, while the other two judges labelled her “phenomenal”.
Berry says: “I feel amazing! I really enjoyed my performances, I absolutely loved performing with the Mzansi Gay Choir, so my Edge of Glory performance was my favourite.”
