Kim Kardashian paid tribute to her estranged husband Kanye West as she won the Fashion Icon Award at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday night.
The SKIMS owner took to the stage in Los Angeles wearing an unusual all-black Balenciaga number, which covered her whole body, and black sunglasses as she was handed the trophy by Tracee Ellis Ross.
In a touching speech, Kim, 41 gave a shout out to Kanye, 44, who she filed for divorce from in February, saying the rapper had opened doors for her in the fashion world.
She referenced her early days as the assistant-turned-stylist for her pal Paris Hilton, saying: “I am so humbled to be here ... I started off as a closet organiser and a stylist.
‘So the fact that I am winning a fashion icon award, it’s like a pinch-me moment.”
Kim name-dropped “many amazing designers like Ricardo and Olivier that really believed in me” before saying, “thank you, you know, to Kanye even for really introducing me to the fashion world.”
The moment Kim mentioned Kanye – the crowd went bos.
Kim has since moved on with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson, her first relationship since splitting with Kanye.
She took to the stage later at the event to accept the award for Best Reality Show for the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Flanked by sister Khloe and their momager Kris Jenner, they excitedly teased their new reality show.
Kris, 66, said: “We’ve closed this one chapter, but a new one is coming", she told fans as her two daughters exchanged knowing smiles.
The mom-of-six added: “We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for you, coming in 2022!”
