Idols Season 17 is down to the Top 7 and our Kaapies have made the cut yet again.
With only two Cape contenders in the race, Hanover Park’s Daylin Sass and Berry from Bothasig are counting on fans to vote for them.
From opening performer Karabo to final performer Nqobie on Sunday night, the Idols hopefuls proved they have what it takes to make it big.
Daylin and mom of four, Berry, each gave sterling performances, paying tribute to iconic South African musicians.
Daylin added evocative soul to Steve Kekana’s Take your Love, in a performance that had Unathi begging him to record the song and release it.
Berry was likened to US singer Billie Eilish after her rendition of Freshlyground’s I’d Like.
Berry told the Daily Voice: “To have the opportunity to sing songs from our great South African artists was an absolute honour.
“I knew it would be a challenge to tackle such a big song but I am always ready to work hard and prove why I deserve to go through each round.
“Sunday night was just me enjoying the song, enjoying what I love doing, and singing with my heart and soul.
“I must admit, I’ve got the most amazing supporters in the world. The positivity and love has been encouraging and overwhelming. I cannot express how grateful I am to my Berries.”
Daylin was over the moon with his feedback from judges.
“I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous about my performance because the lyrical content spoke about something I literally went through,” he said.
“It was tough, but I realised from my performance that I’m really strong and that I can get through anything that has hurt me in the past and sing about it honestly without shedding a tear.
“Finally having to sing a ballad in the live shows is something I’ve always wanted to do.
“Everyone loves the song, and I just decided to put my little spin on it. It was an honour to perform a legend’s song.”
Unfortunately it was the end of the road for Bulelani who was eliminated.
