The first week of school is done and dusted, but sadly, this is also the time when parents start worrying about the safety of their kids, especially with the ongoing gang violence.
That’s why a group of Mitchells Plain ouens called Get It Entertainment in Mitchells Plain are using their talents to turn laaities towards music rather than crime.
Spencer Fillis, Clayton Petersen, Raffaello Kock and Bradley Schuurman will be taking to the streets of Eastridge this weekend for their Tribute to the Zoo Park Jam.
The line-up boasts kwaai rappers such as Klein Fortuin, Young Smiley, Rossco B, I’LL Mic, vocalist Meagan Thomas and the Devolution Dance Crew, all hailing from the Plain.
The Park Jam will be held at the Eastridge Netball Pitch in Buffalo Street.
Other young artists are invited to come and show off their skills, and there will be singing, rapping, dance and freestyle MC battles.
Young Smiley says although he was surrounded by skollies growing up, he chose a crime-free life and wants youngsters to know they too have choices.

“The Tribute is to those that have fallen either by losing their lives or drug addiction or those forced into gangsterism,” he says.
The event takes place on Saturday from 2pm to 6pm and it’s free.
Then, The ABBA Tribute show hits Cape Town shores this weekend for one night only.

The full-scale concert takes place on Saturday at the Grand Arena in GrandWest, featuring more than two hours of your favourite ABBA tunes such as Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen, performed with a backing band, dancing, replica costumes and theatrical lighting and effects.
