The stage is set as the Westridge Gardens is being transformed for the annual DStv Mitchells Plain Festival.
It always gives me that feeling of festive cheer when I see it all coming together for this annual festival which has become a highlight on the Cape Flats social calendar.
There is plenty of music on the menu, as well as performances by the SA National Defence Force, including showcasing career opportunities for the youth and an exhilarating air show.
There will also be dozens of national and local exhibitors showing off food, fashion, toys, technology, educational services and kwaai gadgets, just in time for Christmas shopping.
Heart FM will be broadcasting live from the venue, there will be a talent contest for participation in Voice of Tomorrow and several local DJs will keep the crowd entertained.
Director Rozario Brown says the festival, now in its 11th year, aims to celebrate the progress made in “forgotten communities”, giving ordinary people the chance to shine.
“This festival is about creating a platform to bring the people together - not only those from Mitchells Plain, but also from areas across the Cape Flats and the Western Cape,” he says.
On Friday night, YoungstaCPT and Early B will light up the stage, along with the High School DJ of the Year competition in which one lucky pupil will win cash and prizes worth R250 000.
