A new talent search competition that's about to hit TV screens is on a mission to find the best preacher in South Africa.
The show which is titled, Calling The Called “will showcase gifted yet undiscovered preachers of the gospel from townships, rural areas, suburbia and beyond.”
Calling The Called is produced by Zallywood Productions and is said to be the first South African television show of its kind.
Over a period of 13 weeks, viewers will witness as the preachers are put through “rigorous challenges to prove if they are worthy of the ultimate prize.”
The winning prize, which is valued at R1 million, includes a flashy new car, a television agreement and an opportunity to study theology.
The preachers who make it into the top five are also guaranteed prizes.
While it's still unclear when the show will air, Zallywood Productions spokesperson, Ngwako Serepe says the show will highlight “existing potential pulpit talent that has been ignored for too long.”

“Almost 80% of South Africans subscribe to Christianity, indicating an appetite for fresh and innovative content directed at this demographic.
"For 13 weeks, contestants will be put through rigorous challenges to prove if they are worthy of the ultimate prize. Viewers will also be allowed to vote for their favourite candidate as episodes unfold. In the first stages of the program, there will be five formidable judges to adjudicate the process. Among those, a different celebrity judge will feature weekly.”
Zallywood’s director, Ruth Mabona adds: “We have seen shows about talented singers and soccer players but this is unique in this category of television content.”
The competition is opened to all South Africans from the age of 21. Foreign nationals with work permits may also enter.
Auditions will be held throughout Gauteng in searching for candidates who will be country’s next best preacher.
