Happy New Year, party people!
2020 has landed and what better way to ring in the new year than with a lekker klopse jol.
The iconic Cape Town Street Parade is taking place on Saturday and if we know our klopse lovers, you can be certain the boetas and tieties are already setting up their gazebos and camping chairs in the CBD because they don’t want to miss one moment of the colourful parade.
The festivities start at 11am on the Main Stage in Darling Street with live local acts and an opening speech by Mayor Dan Plato, before the troupes start marching at 2pm.
Madeegha Anders, Fagrie Isaacs, Ashur Petersen, That Funny Boy Band, Krista Jonas, Ekraam Cupido and more will be performing on the Main Stage as well as the Wale Street stage.
This will be the third year running that the event is being organised by the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association.
Organisers say they are expecting 45 teams from four carnival boards to take part in the street jol.
About 100 000 people annually flock to the city to see the spectacle and organisers say they do not expect any different this year.

The troupes will march from Hanover Street in District Six and head towards the City Hall, where they will march in a horse-shoe route onto the Grand Parade and back onto Darling Street.
They continue up Darling Street into Adderley Street, up Wale Street to Rose Street in the Bo-Kaap.
Dennis Petersen, Chief Operating Officer for KKKA, says they are pulling out all the stops.
“We have a massive 800-seater stand to seat the public on a first-come-first-serve basis, this is not for the golden circle but the general public who want to make use of it.”
If you don’t manage to get a lekker spot, moetie worry nie, there will be two large screens set up, one at the Grand Parade and one at the top of Wale Street, thanks to the corporate sponsors of the event, MTN and Samsung.
