Cape Town musicians are pulling together in aid of their sick colleague with a “Band Aid for Winston Moses” concert.
Winston, from Parow, is the vocalist for the band Encore, but is also a music producer and plays various types of instruments.
The 47-year old singer collapsed on 18 May, while he was watching his son play soccer.
He was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, which means he only has 15% use of his kidneys.
His wife, Antoinette Moses, says he is receiving dialysis four times a day to keep him alive, but he urgently needs a new kidney.
“Winston needs constant treatment which cost up to R300 000 for the year,” she adds.
All money raised will go towards his medical costs and day-to-day living expenses.
The father of three says: “I’m grateful for the support from fellow musicians.”
Organiser Calvin Peters, aka Uncle Cal, says he has seen this type of situation play out way too often.
“These guys dedicate their lives to making music and entertaining the public. But being a musician is a thankless job, and most of them don’t earn enough to afford a medical aid,” says Cal.
Artists who have confirmed their performance include Salome, Allou April, Claire Phillips, Vuvu Khumalo, radio jock Brandon Leigh and international star Choko.
Anyone who would like to contribute cash or their services can contact Calvin on 082 950 8625 or email [email protected].
The event will be taking place at Club West End in Athlone, on Friday, at 8pm. Tickets are R100 each, available at Webtickets and at the door.
