DJs in Cape Town are coming together to assist a fellow deck-wrecker who lost everything after his home and three others were left in ruins after a blaze.
Chesswill Abrahams, 29, aka DJ Chello, is well-known and one of his mixes was even played on the Grand Parade during the Springboks victory tour in Cape Town after they won the Rugby World Cup.
Chello is a familiar face at Bob’s D6, and is a resident DJ on GHFM Dr’s In The House with Dr Jules.
He says on Saturday at about 4pm, while on his way home after a lekker day out, he noticed dark smoke coming from his three-bedroom home in Jack Street, Stellenbosch.
“We were on our way home when we saw the smoke and I immediately got a call from my buddy, who told me that there was a fire at our house.
“When we got home we saw the fire was already spreading fast and there was nothing we could do.”

Chello, who lives with six other relatives, says four Wendy houses were destroyed on the property.
Klapmuts Fire and Rescue Service Commander Dawn Jooste says: “We can’t determine the cause of the fire as yet. There were four dwellings and 15 people affected. We can’t rule out arson.
“Disaster Risk Management was on scene to assist people with temporary food and building supplies.”
Julian Brache, aka DR Jules, said they are now raising funds for Chello and the other victims: “We are really sorry about what happened and are getting together to collect items to help them rebuild their homes.
