We know that girls rule the world thanks to Beyoncé, so it comes as no surprise that the ladies are also taking over the Klopse.
On Saturday, the girls put the cherry on the cake at the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Assosiasie competition at Athlone Stadium.
It was a chance for the Champions League Section 2 teams: Kensington All Stars, Seawinds Entertainers, All Stars, Cape Argus D6, V&A Minstrels, Extreme Minstrels and the Super League Section 2 teams: Bishop Lavis, Crystal Palace and Manenberg to haal uit en wys in the categories for Afrikaans Combine, English Moppie, Junior Combine Chorus and Female Sentimental.
The nine troupes deli-vered their best performances in this part of the competition and they proved why they are the contenders.
Athlone Stadium came alive with song as the crowd favourite won the Female Sentimental section.
KKKA Director Melvyn Matthews said mense went bos for pop star Salome who performed a perfect rendition of Shirley Bassey’s Don’t Cry Out Loud to roaring applause.
“Salome really showcased the talent Cape Town has to offer,” said Matthews.
“All the Super troupes set a new precedent of Karnival and all events ran smooth and on time. We ended at 11pm sharp.”
Madeegah Anders sang her original song So Long Goodbye from the District Six Musical for Extreme Minstrels.
Madeegah said: “In all my life of performing on stages and theatre, I have never experienced how amazing it was like I did Saturday, to see all the people in the audience in the stands, that was priceless.”
Songbird Can Skylark, from All Stars, performed a medley of songs that included Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing and Beyoncé’s Listen.
