The carnival competition is hotting up, with klopse turning on the style in the third round of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Assosiasie.
Twenty-one troupes took part in the Juvenile Sentimental, English Combine, Afrikaans Moppie and the Grand March Pass at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
KKKA Director Muneeb Gambeno said the event was yet again a success.
“The highlights were all the fantastic Grand March Pass displays,” he says.
“We introduced a new MC, Manie Davids, who together with Shaheen van Nelson, aka Mr Personality, enthralled the crowds.
“Kenfac and G-Stars delivered a top-notch solo performance in the Adult and Juvenile Sentimental categories which stood over from last week.”
In the late afternoon, it was the turn of the English Combined chorus and Afrikaans Moppie songs.
Gambeno adds: “The crowd’s favourite performances were delivered by Kenfac, D6 FWS, Entertainers and Juvie Boys, but the ultimate performance came from Baruch Entertainers who delivered a flawless rendition of the song Jerusalem, to a standing ovation by the entire Athlone Stadium.”
The Afrikaans Moppie songs were, as always, a crowd-pleaser with the lagbol lyrics tickling mense’s funny bones.
G-Stars, Hawkers and Mitchells Plain All Stars dominated this section.
KKKA hosted the youngsters from St Francis Home for Boys in Athlone who had a fantastic time joking with the MCs during a fundraising drive which raised in excess of R6000 for stationery needs of the boys.
“The KKKA would like to thank the supporters for their generosity to these boys,” says Gambeno.
Lindt chocolatiers also generously handed chocolate packs to dozens of members of the crowd for their energetic dancing and participation.
The event ended at 10.40pm.
