A woman accused of plotting to have her husband killed is back behind bars after she failed to comply with bail conditions.
Petina Coetzee, 44, was released on R30 000 bail in October after appearing in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court.
Coetzee was arrested after allegedly ordering a hit on her 67-year-old husband Austin Coetzee.
Police nabbed her in a sting operation at Lansdowne train station after she handed an undisclosed amount of money to an officer pretending to be a “hitman”.
After being granted bail, she was ordered to surrender her passport and report to the Elsies River police station daily, as well as not to make contact with state witnesses.
One of her bail conditions is that she is not allowed to contact Austin directly or indirectly.
The court heard that she had spoken to him on December 2, just before appearing in court. He attended the hearing on that day.
Police spokesperson André Traut confirmed Coetzee was arrested recently after handing herself over at Lansdowne police station for failing to comply with her bail conditions.
Traut said Coetzee was due to make a court appearance in Wynberg on Monday.
The case began after a concerned citizen approached the Manenberg serious and violent crimes investigation unit. The detectives then went undercover and met Coetzee.
The police said at the time it was believed the woman agreed to pay the “hitman” R200 000 in instalments after the killing.
