A champion dance crew is inviting kids from all over the Cape Flats for FREE dance lessons.
The Immortal Style crew says they are looking for fresh new talent while, at the same time, uplifting communities and keeping kids off the street.
Immortal Style has been around since 2007, and has eight members.
The crew has travelled overseas, including to Korea, Reunion Island, the United Kingdom, Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Zambia for dancing competitions and to present and take part in workshops.
In 2011, they won a Reunion Island event, called the Battle De L’Ouest.
In addition, they’ve won Cape Town’s African Battle Cry thrice, they are also three-time champs of the annual African Hop Indaba and the winners of the Red Bull BC One City vs City Championships.
Immortal Style members say they want to be an inspiration to future B-Boys and B-Girls.
Group leader, B-boy Ambrose Uren, 31, tells the Daily Voice they’ve recently trained kids from Bonteheuwel and Athlone and held their first Breaking Battle Competition for these kids last Saturday at the Athlone Community Centre.
With the second Breaking Battle coming on 28 September, Ambrose is now appealing for more kids to join in on the fun while at the same time urging mense to support the initiative by coming to the event.
“We strongly believe that by inspiring the youth, offering them a safe platform to explore their talents and teaching them fundamental breaking mindsets, such as respect, discipline and perseverance, we can create a change within the Cape Flats,” Ambrose says.
