Two Hanover Park skollies accused of gunning down a young mom on Sunday have been arrested and sent to Pollsmoor Prison.
Mustapha de Jongh and Kyle Mandera made their first appearance at Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for the murder of Gouwa Karriem, 28, amid protests by angry aunties from Donegal Court who say they are g@tvol of the gang shootings.
The young mom of three died a hero on Sunday when she shielded children from bullets, but was struck in the head after leading the laaities safely into a ground floor flat.
SHIELD: Gouwa Karriem, 28.
Her death left her relatives and neighbours traumatised and a large crowd gathered in the court to express their grief and outrage.
Her sister, Ashieqa van der Westhuizen, 25, said she rushed home after receiving a call from a friend about the shooting.
She said Gouwa’s death has devastated the family as her three children will now have to grow up without a mother.
As the family prepared for her janaazah on Tuesday, two alleged members of the Pitbulls gang appeared in court for her murder.
The duo appeared briefly and opted for Legal Aid lawyers.
The case was postponed to 26 November for a bail information hearing and they were sent to Pollsmoor Prison.
A resident from Donegal Court, who asked not to be named, says they are g@tvol of gangsters opening fire in their court and say despite the attempted murder of community worker Mary Bruce, 48, in July, little has changed.
MESSAGE: G@tvol Hanover Park residents protest outside court.
“The Pitbulls, Dollar Kidz and Derwent Kids are always shooting here and were
are g@tvol.
“They even shot Aunty Mary and nothing happened. So when they arrested these two, we made sure to go to court and protest to show we have had enough now.
“I was in Maitland and came back immediately. When I got there, her body was already covered and the blood was everywhere.”
