A local church organisation from Kreefgat is asking for assistance to host a breakfast run for 300 underprivileged children in Bonteheuwel in November.
A representative of the Pentecostal Revelation Church of God, Nicolene Brevis, says their organisation regularly feeds children in Kreefgat, Kalksteenfontein and the Strandfontein informal settlement, Sewende Laan.
The aim is not only to feed a hungry child, but to show them there are adults who care.
“We really want to host the breakfast run and fun day for these children. We want to show that there are people out there who love and care for them,” Nicolene explains.
“We have also asked the assistance of officials to come and give demonstrations and talks surrounding awareness to the children.”
Of the 300 children, 100 will be from Klipfontein Primary School and the event will be held on 3 November.
However, they lack essential items, Nicolene says.
“We seek assistance in donations in making this event a success. We need porridge, bread, porridge bowls, foam cups and anything else,” Nicolene says.
The breakfast run will be from 8am to 10.30am and afterwards a fun day for the children and the broader community will take place until 3.30pm.
“The fun day is also to bring the community together. We will be having indigenous games, mini soccer and cricket, face painting, a jumping castle and horse riding,” Nicolene says.
