Phil Foden has warned their Premier League rivals that they are back to the best and ready to fight for the title.
With Liverpool and Manchester United grabbing all the headlines, City have quietly crept into third on the table following attacking midfielder Foden’s winner in a narrow 1-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday.
The win took them to third in the league – four points off leaders United with a game in hand.
The Citizens’ next assignment is against Crystal Palace this Sunday, giving the Blues plenty of time to recover as Gabriel Jesus came off the bench for the first time since his coronavirus isolation.
Other cases, Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres were all unused subs.
And with the cavalry on the way, Foden says: “It definitely feels like we’re back to our best. We've taken confidence from the last few results.
“We know we have a game in hand now and we have to think of the next opponent, and not look too far ahead.
“We want to keep this form and we want to keep pushing to try to win the league hopefully.”
Foden’s winner on the stroke of half time was his eighth of the season and it was brilliantly set up by Bernardo Silva and makeshift No.9 Kevin de Bruyne.
And after his late replacement Raheem Sterling missed a penalty to add some gloss to the win, Foden wants to keep on contributing to the goals.
He says: “I don’t score too many with my right foot.
“I want to keep scoring goals and I’m enjoying it at the moment.”
