Forgotten man, Springbok Jamba Ulengo, is ready to mix it up with the best wingers in this country again.
At 30, Ulengo is no spring chicken, but after a few years in the rugby wilderness he’s keen to get stuck in again and show what he can do.
And this time it’ll be in the red and white of the Lions – the franchise who’ve thrown him something of a lifeline following his near-career-ending knee injury.
Having played one Test for the Springboks in 2016, Ulengo suffered a serious knee injury in 2017 that ultimately ended his time at the Bulls.
He explains: “In life you get opportunities, but they also get taken away from you.
“There have been some dark times... I went through a tough period there [with the knee injury], when friends were few and opportunities weren’t forthcoming.”
He adds: “I feel privileged to be a part of this Lions team. I’ve got so much love and passion for the game and can’t wait to see what I can do on the field again.”
