The Cape Cobras continued to dominate the Warriors in their 4-Day clash at Newlands on Tuesday.
Entering the day with the visitors on 32/1 in reply to the Cobras’ helse first innings total of 523/6, teh Capetonians piled on the pressure on Day Three to have the Warriors in trouble at 259/9 when bad light stopped play.
Still 254 runs behind, the Cobras will look to bag the final Warriors wicket early on the final day and force the follow-on.
If they then want to win the match, they need their top bowlers to perform once again.
Tsepho Moreki (3/44) and Akhona Mnyaka (3/41) did most of the damage in the Warriors’ first innings.
The Cobras, though, will feel that they should have been in an even better position heading into the final day. With the Warriors on 137/7, the Capetonians should have killed off their visitors.
But a 56-run eighth wicket partnership between Ayabulela Gqamane (55) and Marco Jansen (50), followed by a 50-run ninth wicket partnership between the latter and Anrich Nortje (26*) saved some face for the visitors.
At the Wanderers, meanwhile, hosts the Lions finished the day on 21/1 in search of 228 to beat the Dolphins.
In the other match, the Titans are on 158/0 with a lead of just seven runs in their second innings.
