The Stormers coaching staff want their replacements to show more killer instinct when they take the field.
In last weekend’s 33-30 win over the Lions at Ellis Park, the Stormers allowed the Lions to claw their way back from 26-15 down in the last 20 minutes to almost win the match and needed a last-minute try to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
Simply not good enough from the bench, according to assistant coach Dawie Snyman.
He explains: “We spoke about it as a team, we are actually quite disappointed with our guys coming off the bench and the impact they made.
“They didn’t bring enough energy in that last 20 minutes where we had control of the game and gave it back to the Lions.
“It’s something that we spoke about - those guys coming off the bench have got a responsibility.
“The big games get won in the last five to 10 minutes and we need more from them.”
The Stormers have a chance to rectify their mistakes when they host the Jaguares at Newlands on Saturday.
Boosted by the return to fitness of Springbok scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies and looseforward Jaco Coetzee, they will have a stronger available squad meaning the bench should be stronger as well.
However, the coaching staff is sweating on the fitness of Wilco Louw who is nursing a niggle.
