The Cape Cobras turned on the style on Day Two of their 4-Day clash against the Warriors at Newlands on Monday.
Opening the day on 146/3, the Capetonians added 367 runs for the loss of just three wickets before declaring their first innings on 513/6.
The big hero of the day was wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne who scored an unbeaten double hundred.
Verreynne and captain Tony de Zorzi resumed the Cobras’ innings yesterday morning and added 35 runs to their overnight total, before the latter was clean bowled for 68 by Proteas speedster Anrich Nortje (2/87).
When Nortje removed the bails of Jason Smith for just six runs, the Warriors would have given themselves a collective pat on the back with the Cobras’ score on 199/5.
But their joy was shortlived, as Proteas allrounder George Linde joined Verreynne in the middle to share a sixth-wicket partnership of 192 runs.
Linde was eventually caught by Yaseen Vallie off the bowling of Tsepho Ntuli (2/95) with his score on 107 and the grand total on 391.
Verreynne needed another partner and Imran Manack answered the call.
The pair then shared an unbeaten partnership of 122, with Verreynne on 216* and Manack on 55* when they decided to declare.
Following their declaration, the Cobras took further control of the contest with Nandre Burger taking the wicket of Edward Moore for 11. When stumps were called, the visitors were on 32/1.
Elsewhere in the country, the Knights lead the Titans by 44 runs with four wickets left, while the Lions trail the Dolphins by 101 runs with three wickets in the bank at the end of the second day.
