Caster Semenya returned to her winning ways as she produced a finishing burst that blew away the opposition in the 1000 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday night.
After a slight hiccup in falling off the pace and finishing 6th in the 1500 metres in Diamond League action in Lausanne, Switzerland last week, the world 800 metres champions bounced back to win in Rabat in a career-best time of 3 min 31.01 secs.
This eclipsed her previous personal best of 2:35.43 set in Pretoria earlier this year.
Semenya made no mistake this time as she positioned herself perfectly for the finish to power home well ahead of the American pair of CeAir Brown (2:35.85) and Kaela Edwards (2:36.13)
"It was a very good race, but unfortunately it was not as fast as I expected," said Semenya afterwards. "I hope to be here next year because it is always nice to be in Africa."
Its a busy weekend for Semenya who will head to London to join her Team SA colleagues for action in the 8-nation World Cup Athletics at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday and Sunday nights.
Dominique Scott-Efurd finished 9th in the women's 5000 metres in 15:11.65 with the win going to Kenyan Hellen Obiri in 14:21.75.
Zarck Visser's evening best of 7.79 metres in the men's long jump, placed him 6th with Jamaican Tajay Gayle winning with 8.09.
