Manchester United are paaping over Paul Pogba’s fitness after their most expensive player was ruled out of Thursday's 6.55pm Europa League clash at AZ Alkmaar.
The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in both Monday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Arsenal and last week’s League Cup win over Rochdale despite concerns over the last two weeks of an ankle problem.
But on Wednesday the club announced: “Following a specialist’s opinion, Paul Pogba requires a period of further rest and conservative treatment for the foot injury he sustained in the game against Southampton in August.”
He now looks set to miss Sunday’s trip to Newcastle, with skipper Ashley Young also an injury doubt.
Pogba joins teammates Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in missing the game due to various problems.

Scott McTominay, meanwhile, wants United to rediscover the killer instinct after letting slip the lead against Arsenal.
Talking about the missed chances in the Gunners game, the young Scotland midfielder says: “There were a lot of different chances we had in the game and it is about us being more ruthless in front of goal now.”
In other action, Arsenal host Standard Liege at 9.55pm hoping to improve on their performance at Old Trafford. Having beaten Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 last week, the Gunners can take control of Group F with a win over their closest rivals.
Wolves go looking for their first Euro win of the campaign at Besiktas after ending their wait for a Premier League win at the weekend.
