The PSL title race is facing another twist after the league appealed its Disciplinary Committee’s ruling in the Wayne Arendse saga.
Defender Arendse played for title-chasing Mamelodi Sundowns against Wits last year while he was suspended - a game Downs won.
Last week, the PSL’s DC decided that the defending champions would pay R250 000 as a fine and slapped Arendse with a R50 000 penalty.
But the PSL on Tuesday lodged an appeal, saying its own judiciary body did not apply its rules properly.
The league has requested that the appeal be upheld and demand that the match be awarded to Wits 3-0 in place of the monetary fine.
If the PSL were to win the case it would have huge consequences in the season’s campaign.
This after Downs went to the top of the table on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Golden Arrows.
Pitso Mosimane’s manne now have 54 points and a two-point lead over Orlando Pirates going into this weekend’s final round.
