Manchester United will not settle for a top-four finish this season and are “looking to win trophies”.
That’s the word from caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Red Devils were drawn against Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday night.
United were looking to overtake Arsenal for fifth place in the Premier League as they hosted Burnley last night and are also still in the Champions League, where they face Paris St Germain in the last 16 next month.
The Norwegian, boosted by winning all eight of his games in charge since taking the reins from Jose Mourinho last month, is aiming for big things.
The former Red Devils star says: “We’re Man United, you should always aim to win the league.
“We can’t do that this year but we’ve just got to look forward to it again.
“We are sixth at the moment, so we are a way off the top teams. We are challenging to be top three at the moment.
He adds: “We’ve got the Champions League, we’ve got the FA Cup, we can’t just say top four and that’s it.
“We’ve got to look at ‘can we win something this year?’ and I go into every single game as a Man United manager thinking we can win this game.
“If you win trophies, that’s a fantastic day for everyone in the club,” said Solskjaer, who won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the 1999 Champions League as a player at United.
