Benni McCarthy hopes his Cape Town City have a taste for goals now after their 3-0 win over AmaZulu at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
His City side scored for the first time in five matches, with strikes from Taariq Fielies, Siphelele Mthembu and Thabo Nodada securing the Citizens only their second win of the PSL campaign.
Fielies punished Usuthu goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha for failing to hang onto a second-minute freekick to tap in from close range for the opener.
And with the return of winger Surprise Ralani, midfield conductor Roland Putsche and an inspired shift to the centre of defence for Mozambican left back Edmilson, City were hungry for more.
Ralani was a constant threat down the left and set up Mthembu to make it 2-0 after 32 minutes.
Man of the Match Thabo Nodada rounded off a team counter for the third in the 72nd minute as City got revenge for their midweek loss to the same opposition.
After some harsh words following their Telkom Knockout first-round defeat to AmaZulu last week, Benni hailed his team for rediscovering their killer instinct.
He says: “I said I don’t want us to become that toothless killer white shark – everybody fears it, but then you realise that shark has no teeth.
“And today we ended up putting our teeth in.
“I’m enjoying it and I hope they want to continue like this.”
Benni was lifted by top performers like Putsche, Dutch goalkeeper Peter van Leewenburgh and centreback Fielies’ return to the spine of the team.
And he adds: “As coach you have to accept that there are players who pick themselves. When they are fit, they play.”
