Benni McCarthy is the perfect fit to coach Bafana Bafana. That’s the word from former South Africa national team boss Pitso Mosimane.
McCarthy has just completed his second season in charge of Cape Town City, lifting the MTN8 early on in the campaign before finishing fourth in the PSL.
Had it not been for a late-season collapse, City would have pushed Pitso’s Sundowns all the way in the race for the title.
And Bra Jingles reckons Benni has all the right stuff to take the reins for Bafana, having scored a record 31 times for the gold and green.
He tells Kickoff: “Benni has shown that he is a very good coach and for him to end to where he ended it really shows that Benni is not Benni because of his profile in playing football.
"He is serious about coaching and his time he is coming very soon. I always told you Benni for Bafana Bafana.
“He has got the right profile, the right image for Bafana and has got an international image and hopefully he will coach Bafana one day.
“He must be patient and he will get the job as long as he keeps doing what he is doing. I am his cheerleader and am rooting for him.”
Bafana compete in Afcon in Egypt, kicking off on June 21 to July 19, under coach Stuart Baxter. They will face powerhouses Ivory Coast and Morocco in a tough Group D which also features neighbours Namibia.
