Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy is in a cold war with chairman John Comitis over transfers.
McCarthy missed out on much-publicised main target Robyn Johannes even after the former City skipper became a free agent at the beginning of the month.
The Bafana Bafana legend instead had to watch as Johannes joined local rivals Stellenbosch.
At the time, the coach said: “If I had the money, you know who I want to get. It’s not a secret. But me thinking he is the missing link in the team? A player who can help us win titles? Hierarchies.”
The club moved for winger Fagrie Lakay to replace outgoing Gift Links, which also seems to have scuppered McCarthy’s plan to add free agent Mark Mayambela to his squad.

According to a report published on Kickoff on Tuesday, Comitis said there would be no deal for Mayambela.
The winger, though, played a prominent role in training on Wednesday ahead of the Sunday’s PSL match against Golden Arrows.
And asked if Mayambela was part of his plans, McCarthy says: “Listen, I’m a big fan.
“I know his qualities. But I saw an article yesterday that the chairman made up his mind.
“There is not much my input can do. The chairman is the one, it’s his money, he makes the decision.
“If I get him, I get him. If I don’t, I don’t.”
