Cape Town City gave coach Benni McCarthy the perfect present for his birthday on Monday with a 3-1 PSL win over Black Leopards on Sunday.
But even after his team’s back-to-back wins for the first time in the season and scoring three goals in each of those matches, Benni wasn’t satisfied.
The Bafana Bafana legend’s team go into the international break now and the 41-year-old is concerned that his manne will lose the momentum they worked so hard to create.
He says: “We are happy with two wins back-to-back. But it comes at a price - a two-week break.
“When you come back, you don’t know if that run is going to continue. So we just have to take it and keep the training interesting. We’ll plan nicely.”
The City opened the scoring after 10 minutes before conceding an equaliser in the 21st minute from a sloppy Surprise Ralani pass.
And Benni says his team needs to be more focused and ruthless in the future as they look to keep up this form.
He explains: “I don’t think people are going to believe me when I say that I’m a bit disappointed.
“Because up until we scored the first goal, we did everything that we worked on in training.
“Then we went back to being naive, sloppy, fancy, not showing the opponents the respect they deserve and then conceding.
“I wasn’t too pleased with that. I wanted to stay focused because it was an opportunity to show that we can score goals.”
