Shaun Bartlett rode into the Bafana Bafana setup to give Stuart Baxter’s manne a boost ahead of their Afcon 2019 qualifiers against Seychelles.
South Africa take on the island nation on Saturday at Soccer City and on Tuesday go to Victoria as they look to take six points from this double-header.
Maximum points will give Baxter and Bafana 10 points in Group E, which should be enough to secure at least second place in the pool and book them a place in at the Cameroon finals next June-July.
Baxter will be hoping Bafana legend Bartlett can add some winning expertise and experience to the squad.
And with 28 goals in 74 games for SA, hopefully, sharpen the attack too.
Baxter, right, says of his new part-time assistant coach: “We have one of the additions to the technical team – Shaun Bartlett.
“We have an agreement. It’s more game by game for the beginning. But obviously, we want him in the staff. I just hope he fits it. So welcome to him.”
Baxter is also waiting to welcome a trio of his overseas contingent.
China-based striker Dino Ndlovu, Guingamp midfielder Lebogang Phiri and ace Percy Tau were expected to arrive late on Monday.
There was some injury news from the camp too, with Orlando Pirates star Vincent Pule and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Morena both doubtful.
Baxter says: “I arrived at the Downs-Wits game on Sunday and I heard that Thapelo pulled a hamstring in training and that is unlucky.
“We are going to get them scanned and after that we’ll make a call for replacements for the squad.”
