Mo Salah scored a brace in Liverpool’s 4-0 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade to become the fastest man to 50 goals for the Merseyside giants.
Wednesday night’s Anfield double came after he ended a four-match run without a goal in Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Huddersfield.
And that makes it six goals in 13 games for the former AS Roma forward and also took him to the half-century for the club.
Salah reached the milestone quicker than any Liverpool player in history, achieving the feat in 65 games - 12 faster than the previous record holder Albert Stubbins in the 1940s.
Salah says: “It’s a great record and I’m very proud. I just want to keep scoring and keep helping the team win games.
“The way we play and the system has been different but we know our qualities and we are happy with each other,” he adds, referring to the front trio with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Firmino set Liverpool on their way in the 20th minute with an emphatic finish after a smart pull back from Andy Robertson found the Brazilian in space in the box.
Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri, busy and creative throughout, fed Salah for Liverpool’s second on the stroke of halftime, the Egyptian firing home from inside the box.
Liverpool put the game to bed six minutes after the interval when Filip Stojkovic stuck out an arm to block Mane and Salah blasted home the penalty for his landmark goal.
Mane then missed another penalty, his shot pushed onto the bar by Red Star keeper Milan Borjan, before making amends with a close-range finish in the 80th minute.
In the other Group A clash, Paris St Germain and Napoli played to a 2-2 draw.
