Cape Town City boss Benni McCarthy wants free agent and attacking ace Mpho Makola to boost his PSL title challenge.
Makola and McCarthy played alongside one another at Orlando Pirates back in 2012 and now that the 33-year-old midfielder has been released by Bucs, the City boss is ready to pounce.
In an interview on Robert Marawa’s Youtube channel, the Bafana Bafana legend dropped his wishlist to add to his squad ahead of new campaign to chairman John Comitis.
And he reckons deadball specialist Makola could be a key man in the spaces behind the strikers where loaned-out Ayanda Patosi used to work his magic last season.

Asked about his quality additions, McCarthy says: “Mpho. I’m putting out for my chairman. He is free.
“Although he comes at a price, if you’re not paying a transfer fee, so he’s affordable.
“But you know what you are gonna get with these players.
“He’s a player I know and one of the special talents we have [in South Africa].”
The coach is also keen on bolstering his defence and claims that former skipper Robyn Johannes would be happy to return to the club from Wits.
He adds: “Robyn would love to come back and all the players would love him back. But he is a Wits player and we don’t know if Wits would let him leave.”
Also on McCarthy’s radar as he looks for experienced defenders are Justice Chabalala and Siyanda Xulu.

Xulu would come at a hefty fee from Maritzburg United, while the City boss believes that a loan deal could be struck for Chabalala who is struggling for game time with the Buccaneers.
Meanwhile, midfielder Mpho Matsi has been sent to PSL newboys Stellenbosch for next season.
