Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri apologised for his assistant coach starting a touchline brawl in the aftermath of the Blues’ late equaliser in their draw with Manchester United.
Ross Barkley’s last-gasp injury-time leveller snatched a point for the Stamford Bridge hosts in Saturday’s Premier League 2-2 result.
Emotions ran high for Blues assistant Marco Ianni, who celebrated the goal in front of the United bench, sparking a rol with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.
And Sarri was quick to resolve the problem, saying: “I didn’t see anything on the pitch but after the match I spoke with Jose and immediately understood that we are wrong.
“I have spoken with the member of my staff and then I bring him to speak with Mourinho to say sorry to him. I think it is finished. We made a mistake. We were in the wrong.”
Mourinho also played down the bots afterwards, adding: “I am not annoyed with anything.
“The assistant has already come to me and apologised, I told him to forget it. I have made a lot of mistakes in my career.”
United showed great character to come back and come within seconds of handing Chelsea their first defeat of the campaign.
The Blues went ahead in the 21st minute when Antonio Rudiger outjumped Paul Pogba to head in the opener.
But Anthony Martial’s second-half double stunned the hosts – his 55th-minute equaliser was a predatory finish from six yards out, before capping off a counter with a clinical curler in the 73rd.
Barkley, though, had the last word after six minutes of injury time, thumping home a loose ball after the Blues had hit the post.
