Jose Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday by Manchester United, paying the price for their worst start to a season in the post-Alex Ferguson era.
Having been axed by Chelsea almost exactly three years ago on December 17, Mourinho was told to pak en waai after his team’s 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
That defeat left United on 26 points after 17 games and sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind the Reds - worse than former bosses Louis van Gaal (28) and David Moyes (29) in their final seasons.
Mourinho, though, is speculated to get a moerse£24m payoff by United for his failure after two and half years in charge at Old Trafford.
The club explained the way forward in a statement, saying: “A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
Meanwhile, assistant coach Michael Carrick will take training until United appoint an interim manager until the end of the season in the next 24 hours.
Former France and Paris St-Germain boss Laurent Blanc is leading the race, while United’s ex-Babyface Assassin, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is reportedly also in the mix.
