England record goal-scorer Wayne Rooney on Sunday
celebrated scoring his first goal for Major League Soccer (MLS)
team DC United as well as breaking his nose.
The 32-year-old, who left Everton to play in the United States,
scored his side's opening goal Saturday in the nation's capital.
"Delighted to score my first goal for DC United last night... And a
broken nose and 5 stitches," Rooney tweeted Sunday.
Rooney's opener went through the legs of ex-Manchester United
team-mate Tim Howard, though the DC captain was later twice denied by
the goalkeeper.
Niki Jackson's own goal allowed the home side to pull ahead 2-1
before Rooney broke his nose while defending in stoppage time.
Despite the win, United remain bottom of the MLS eastern conference.
Last month, Rooney agreed to a three-and-a-half year contract with
DC, which he described as the fulfillment of a "career ambition."
