The University of the Western Cape’s star of this year’s Varsity Cup Tinotenda Mavesere has been snapped up by the Sharks.
After winning the Forward that Rocks, the 22-year-old Zimbabwean-born looseforward became one of three UWC players to sign professional contracts at the conclusion of the tournament.
According to the university’s website, scrumhalf Branden de Kock will join the Cheetahs, while centre Andre Manuel has signed for Boland.
Of his players earning recognition at provincial level, coach Paul Treu tells the website: “This is great news for us and it recognises our programme and what we are trying to achieve.
“And obviously their studies are going to be important and we will see how they are going to accommodate that.
“Those players, together with a few others, really deserve to get call-ups to play in the Currie Cup or to be part of provincial teams.
“And we are excited to see them play at those levels this year.”
