Elton Jantjies and his Golden Lions teammates want to bring some silverware to Ellis Park.
Despite being Mzansi’s best team in Super Rugby - the Lions have played in the last three finals - the Johannesburg union last tasted gold back in 2015 when they won the Currie Cup.
Jantjies, though, missed the 2015 decider and last played in a Currie Cup final in 2011.
The 28-year-old now wants to end his personal drought.
But they have to get past the Sharks this Saturday in their Durban semifinal first.
Jantjies says: “I’m not going to shy away from the fact that winning it in 2011 was special.
“Now we are in the same type of vibe.
“It’s exciting to be playing in the Currie Cup.
“You normally take it as a formality, but you shouldn’t.
“It’s put some extra energy into my life and my career and it is something I’ve always cherished. It really is something we should give more attention to.”
He believes decision- making will be key to getting their hands on the trophy.
Playing next to experienced scrumhalf Nic Groom, he adds: “Rugby fundamentals don’t change.
“It’s always about when to run when to pass when to kick. Winning your setpieces and getting good ruck ball.”
Of Groom, he adds: “He is a cool head. He’s similar to Ross [Cronje]. They are calm guys. They put the team first.”
